5 things I learnt about reading during my English degree

So I recently finished my degree AND I’m due to start a job in academic publishing very soon (hooray for the real world!), meaning I’m planning on returning to blogging and (hopefully) posting regularly. For now, I hope this post will explain my absence and give you some insight into what studying literature is really like. … More 5 things I learnt about reading during my English degree

Harry Potter Moment of the Week [8 October]

Harry Potter Moment of the Week is a feature started by Leah @ Uncorked Thoughts (who also made the featured image) and jointly hosted by Micheline @ Lunar Rainbows—with creative credit going out to Ula at Blog of Erised. The idea is to get Harry Potter fans together and discuss our favorite things about the series; be it a favorite moment, character, magical item, spell, quote or object from the books, films or J.K Rowling herself. This week, the question is: rename the books from Draco’s point of view. … More Harry Potter Moment of the Week [8 October]

Bookish Habits I Want to Quit, or Have Quit

So it’s been a while and I’ve been busy, but I thought Top Ten Tuesday (hosted by The Broke and the Bookish) would be a good way to ease myself back into blogging, especially as this week’s topic is Ten Bookish Habits I Want to Quit, or Have Quit, especially as part of the reason I’ve been gone is because of some these habits. Unfortunately I could only come up with five, but here goes! … More Bookish Habits I Want to Quit, or Have Quit

Ten Books I’m Taking Back to University

I’m returning to Top Ten Tuesday once again, a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. As this post goes up, I am moving into my house for second year, so this seems like a fitting topic for freebie week. Obviously, I’m taking more than ten books with me (not counting assigned reading, which I am yet to receive…), but these are some particularly notable books. … More Ten Books I’m Taking Back to University

WWW Wednesday [9 September]

I’m back from Paris! (Though yet to catch up on reading blog posts and responding to comments. Sorry.) I thought it would be best for me to return with a WWW Wednesday, despite my failure to adhere to what I said a fortnight ago…

Solitaire by Alice Oseman

When I started reading this book, I thought it could go one of two ways: either the protagonist realises how narrow-minded she is in thinking ill of people just for their popularity, or she is proved right in her prejudiced opinion. The former occurrence I was hoping for; the latter I was dreading. As it happens, the ending was more clichéd than anticipated and almost made me groan out loud, although there were some interesting moments along the way. … More Solitaire by Alice Oseman

August Book Haul

I went overboard with book buying this month; by my standards at least. First, there was a sale on Book Depository, then I went to Blackwell’s in Oxford. Sales and huge bookshops make me weak, and I will be avoiding both for a while so I can buy food! To be fair, I did cut down both lots of book shopping significantly. Without further ado, these are all the books I bought this month, including a preorder. … More August Book Haul
